In "Once Around the Patch" Don Fairbanks shares the serious and fun parts of more than a half century of everyday aviation experiences. First as a tail g.u.n.n.e.r flying 30 missions with the Carpetbaggers of the 8th Air Force at night, supplying the Frenchand Belgian underground forces with a.m.m.u.n.i.t.i.o.n and supplies.
After the war was over he was an Air Line pilot, charter pilot, corporate pilot including being an active flight instructor and owner/operator of FAA Approved Flight School for single engine airplanes, land and sea, multi-engine planes and helicopters.
He built and raced a Knight Twister for 18 of those years in 87 races in the USA and Mexico, setting four world speed records. He was a pilot examiner for 32 years in both airplanes and helicopters for Private, Commercial, Instrument and Flight Instructor certificates.
He has flown several thousand different airplanes and helicopters. There are 215 different makes and models included in that total. Total flying time exceeds 32000 hours, 5000+ as crew chief/flight engineer during 13 years with the military and 26000+ civilian.
Condition: slight damage to front cover edge and lower spine (see pix). All 214 pages intact and clean. Spine unbroken. Some tiny marks from age and poor storage.
